Engineering Operations
The Engineering Cost Center is the record keeper of the City's infrastructure. Maps and
records are kept for each of the City's utilities and the street system.
The Cost Center is made up of engineers who handle the design and construction
engineering of streets, sewers, and a multitude of other infrastructure categories, and
support staff to carry out the technical functions.
The Engineering Cost Center provides for administration and direct supervision of the
following functions:
- Preliminary and Final Studies and Designs.
- Prepare bid documents for capital improvement projects.
- Project management - capital improvement projects.
- Evaluate civil and structural plans.
- Prepare action request memorandums, requests for proposals, city council
resolutions, and professional service agreements for capital improvement and other
projects.
- Assist other DPW divisions with water supply, wastewater collection,
industrial pretreatment programs, and storm sewer related projects.
- Assist other City Departments as a consultant for capital improvement
projects.
- Issue permits for sidewalk improvements, curb cuts, driveway improvements,
and pavement breaks.
- Provide research and information for the City and the public regarding the
existing infrastructure and requirements for service.
- Assist in preparing the capital improvement program for the department.
- Administer critical sidewalk inspection program.
- Respond to citizen complaints and lawsuit referrals.
- Promote policy, design, and specification improvements.
- Evaluate the technical, and property description content of legal
agreements.
